Chevrolet's master piece of 1960, can they make another one?

 Since the glory days of 1957, the full-size salon lineup has been going well, but as much as they did with the 55, 56 and 57 Bel Air models. When the 58 came out, a new brand came up, Impala; unfortunately the design of the 1958 Chevy went a little too far said the buyers of the time. In my honest opinion, the 58 Bel Air/Impala was basically the deformed little brother of the 57 Bel Air. With 4 head light in the front, 6 taillights, the chrome/stainless steel was poor placed and it looked and probably was way too big. 

 As the end of 1958 arrives a nice surprise came through the Chevrolet dealerships, the new 1959 Chevrolet Impala. This car was a marvelous thing, the body was lower, the chassis was lower and the mechanical components were. It was a car to define the rest of the automobile history. Why? Let's compare a 2002 Chevrolet Cavalier with a 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air, the Cavalier is much lower that the Bel Air.  The cars of our days are defined by the 1959 Chevrolets because of its low chassis and body. Today most if not all of our cars (excluding Crossovers, SUVs, Minivans, Vans  and etc.) have a low body; this is created for less wind resistance.

 Unfortunately the style of the car was once again on the edge, it was either you love it, of hate it. I personally like it, but I would never drive it simply because I don't see myself in one. The design itself was heavily influence by the space-age fiasco of the late 50's. In other words, the design was basically compared to the rockets flying into space. With the grill on top of the headlights, cat eyes for taillights and interesting fins, the car looked weird, but for some in a beautiful way. Also mind you again that these, with some other GM models, were the first vehicles that were mass-produced with a lower position.

 Then 1960 came, once again they gave the model a face-lift, this time in a more civilized manner. The headlight were from the 1959's model, but without the grill on top of them, chrome/stainless steel ran across the side, a nice ornament from the mid to back sections of the body. The fins were more calm looking, but still very present. The taillights went back to the 6 alignment format, except that year they were wrapped by a nicely sculpted chrome piece. The top part of the body, meaning the roof, cabin and etc. were not changed from the 59 model. With all of that, the 1960 Impala was a great success, sales went up and Chevrolet was happy. This was not to my surprise because just look at it; it’s an amazing sculpture, with the right curves, details and ornaments. Finally, after trial and error for two straight years buyers got what they wanted. Unfortunately when the 1961 model came, it stirred the buyers once more to buy a Chevy, and the decade goes well. As the 1970’s hit, the Bel Air name was dropped but the Impala continued to walk, and when the name died it was only to be revived for the 21^st century. Today the Impala is rather an afterthought for Chevrolet, let’s hope that the next generation will be as good as the 1960 model, or better yet, the 55, 56, 57 models!

Bob Marley Mix Up

So many remember the song "Don't worry, be happy" and that it's from Bob Marley. Well it's not. I found out after I wrote my Facebook status as "Don't worry, be happy... by Bob Marley" that it wasn't him and that the song was recorded later in 1988. This was years after his death. The worst part about that is that this untrue info is found all over online. There is another song that we mistaken with Bob, "Red, red wine". This song also was released back in 88. This may be short but the whole point of this article is to warn us that a lot of the information found online is not true. Sorry Bob Marley I misunderstood you.

Is our society brainwashed?

Earlier last week my Contemporary World Class had to answer a question that our teacher proposed. His question was: "how do we pay our debt in Canada, do we cut our spending or do we tax more?" Everyone went for taxing. Which makes perfect sense, but when he asked how we should raise taxes that's when I saw how brainwashed our society was. In my beliefs, I would highly recommend to raise taxes for the rich by 2 to 5 percent. Yes, it is a chunk of their salary but this will barely affect their lifestyle. Let me remind you by the way that my definition of rich is a person that makes more than $100 000 a year. Not only will it barely affect them, but the income would be amazing for Canada. Think about it, 5% of $100 000 is $5000. This would be added each year excluding the taxes we already have. Now imagine a whole town of 5000 people making $100 000 a year. In total Canada would make $25 000 000 a year in that one town! Now yes, I agree this might anger the rich a little but in the long run they would contribute more to society thus contributing to services that can provide for them. This is what Barrack Obama supports, he wants to spread the wealth more, but not in such a way that everyone has the same amount of money. Going back to the class, everyone started defending the rich after I proposed this solution. After minutes of debating they came with a conclusion that they would tax the poor and leave the rich alone. Their reasons? Well "rich people give a lot to charity" and that "what if you become rich? how would you feel knowing you said all of this about the rich?" Looks like everyone is a pure capitalist, most of them don't even know that our health care system is a socialist idea. I know why they defended the rich though, most of them think they are rich, or at least think that they will become rich. This mindset is wrong, this is the mindset that most Americans have and this is the mindset that started America's declining society. Only time will tell if my idea will shine through our Canadian Parliament. Hopefully everyone will understand eventually.

WTC Update

 So most people remember the disaster that happen on 9/11. We all know that New York City has a scar in Lower Manhattan. For years ground zero has been a huge hole where thousands died. Today, the story is different. Two visible towers are growing, one is the One World Trade Center and the other one is the 4 World Trade Center. The One World Trade Center will be the tallest, at 1776 feet, it will reclaim the skyline of Manhattan and claim a title of the tallest building in America. There's two more towers under construction, 2 World Trade Center and the 3 World Trade Center. Unfortunately construction on them began late and they are still laying foundations on them. Also on the site, there is a couple of memorial pools, the biggest in the country. These pools have been placed exactly where the Twin Towers stood, with that; the pool will be surrounded by many trees. Right underneath that is the Museum, which will open around 2012-2013. Construction will still take at least half a decade before everything is complete. In the end these will be the towers to represent New York, America and her constant pride.

The next generation of the Malibu is out!

2013 Chevrolet Malibu

 So now its out, the next generation Malibu! This car will be out in 2012 as a 2013 model. The design itself was changed from the bottom up. The grill as I mentioned before has been influenced by the 2011 Chevrolet Cruze. This will be the signature grill for the Chevys throughout the world, so expected it to be on the next generation Impala, Colorado and the all-new Sonic. The headlights have been tweaked and not redesigned completely. This does not mean that it doesn't look great, on the contrary, it looks amazing. With its leaner and longer profile the headlights create this sporty look that enhances the look of the grill. As we move along with the lines, it resembles a little bit like the current Chevy Camaro. This gives the Malibu more of a muscle car look. The sides of the car remain much like the current Chevrolet Malibu, so there is little to say. In the back, the car has a Camaro influenced taillight. On each square (there are four of them on both side) there is a contour of LED lights with a smaller white square in the middle, these white squares will be used as the flashers and back up signal lights. Unlike the Camaro, the taillights are not completely encased in the body of the car, therefore it gives the Malibu a distinctive look. As we go in the inside, like the Cruze, the standards have been pushed higher. It has a wrap around design that encases smooth blue lighting for night driving. The center piece contains a large thin touch screen. The seats are very well made, it blends with the other luxurious components of the interior. For the engine, transmission and other internal components, there is little to talk about, it is claimed to have the Epsilon platform, a successful platform in Europe for many vehicles. So throughout this year we will learn more of the internal components of the car. Now that i'm satisfied with the new Malibu, where is the next Impala?

Chevrolet has a surprise for us...

 It was surprise when the current generation of the Malibu came onto public streets a couple of years back. It was bigger looking and interesting. The headlights where new and the grill was to be set on the next generation of Chevys: including the 2011 Chevy Cruze and the 2012 Chevy Colorado. The Malibu had  strange tails lights too, they were simple to understand and made it recognizable from the sides and back. They were love it or hate it kind of taillights, just like those Caddy taillights of the late 70's and early 80's.

 Now Chevy surprised us once again by releasing a teaser trailer for the next generation Chevy Malibu set for 2012. Yes, that's right there is another generation of the Malibu coming out. It's a surprise for many reasons, first who would ever thought that the next Malibu come out while Chevrolet was teasing us with concepts like the Orlando, Spark and Sonic? Also many people expected to get a new generation of the Chevrolet Impala that has been out since 2006. Even though the 8th generation (new one) has been seen tested in 2010, many though it was just a concept, but now Chevy announced that it's serious.

 The designer claimed that the new Malibu will have slightly larger dimensions. He also explained how it will have a design inspired by the Chevrolet Camaro. So on Monday, April 18th 2011, Chevrolet will reveal the new Malibu to the world. I can't wait to see it.
